Ana de Armas’ Accent Aside in New Marilyn Monroe ‘Blonde’ Trailer

Anne of Arms went viral on his portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming movie – but some can’t get over his voice in character… which still leans very Spanish.

Here’s the deal… ADA stars in this Netflix movie coming out in September titled “Blonde,” which is an NC-17 portrayal of part of Marilyn’s life — albeit through a hyper-stylized lens (it’s based on a fictional book exploring MM’s struggles, as well as rape/abuse, etc.)

We’ll get to the graphic content in a moment – ​​because there’s outrage over that too – but first we need to address the folks complaining about Ana’s ever-there accent… which was revealed in Netflix’s latest trailer for the film which was released last week. He has Twitter in a tizzy.

As you can see (and hear) for yourself, there are still quite visible traces of Ana’s native language in her performance. She’s from Cuba and came to the United States as an adult… and nearly all of her movies so far feature her natural accent.

The problem here – at least for bird app users – is that it seems somewhat distracting, seeing how Marilyn had a typical American accent. Some say Ana not perfecting it for this Oscar baiting role is odd, especially since so many actors these days (international and otherwise) accentuate crossover roles all the time, often to rave reviews. and lots of fanfare.

Also, Ana said early on that she had 9 months of professional dialect training for this part – but now a handful of people are wondering what she has to show for it.

Of course, many are also defending Ana – saying any criticism of her accent is misplaced and misguided – and perhaps teetering on xenophobic territory. Some say there are tons of examples of American actors massacring foreign accents, but nobody cares.

There are also some who think the accent isn’t decisive – arguing that it shouldn’t be the only thing that snaps people out of their suspension of disbelief, especially since we do it all the time to superhero movies. In other words, Movie Twitter is split on this one.

As this debate rages on, there’s also convo about this film potentially exploiting Marilyn’s history and legacy…all for shock value in portraying her tremendous suffering on camera, which many consider like rude – especially with the free reign of an NC-17 rating.
