Britney Spears is saddened by her ex-husband’s recent comments about her relationship with their teenage sons.

In an Instagram Story posted to her verified account over the weekend, the singer responded to Kevin Federline’s comments in an interview with the Daily Mail in which he said their sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, chose not to see their mother, in part because of her social media posts.

“It saddens me to learn that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children,” Spears’ post read. “As we all know, raising teenagers is never easy. It concerns me that the reason is based on my Instagram…it was a LONG TIME before Instagram…I gave them my all.

“One word: HURTING… I’ll say it… My mom said ‘You should GIVE them to their dad.’ I share this because I can,” she added. “Good day friends !!!”

According to Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, “The boys decided they weren’t seeing her right now.”

“They haven’t seen her for a few months,” he reportedly said. “They made the decision not to go to his wedding.”

spears married actor Sam Asghari in June.

Federline, who spoke to the publication with his current wife Victoria, said he apologized to the boys for the partially nude selfies their mother posted on Instagram on occasion. (Spears usually obscured parts of her body with emojis or posed away from the camera in these photos.)

“I try to explain to them, ‘Listen, maybe this is just another way she’s trying to express herself,'” Federline told the publication. “But that doesn’t take away from the fact of what it does to them. It’s hard. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a teenager who has to go to high school.

In his own Instagram post, Asghari objected to this.

“To clarify, my wife has never posted a nude selfie except for her butt (sic) which is quite modest these days,” Asghari wrote.

“There is no validity in his statement about children distancing themselves and it is irresponsible to make this statement publicly,” Asghari continued. “The boys are very smart and will soon be 18 to make their own decisions and may eventually realize the ‘difficult’ part was having a dad who hasn’t worked much in over 15 years as a model.”

Federline, a former dancer, also showed her support for her former stepfather, Jamie Spears, who was locked in a court case with his daughter whom she eventually convinced to be in legal guardianship for 13 years.

“I would absolutely wish for Jamie Spears to come back into the boys’ lives, especially if that’s what the boys wanted,” Federline said. “I have no hard feelings towards Jamie Spears. People make mistakes. I feel bad for him. I feel like he was tested.”

In a longer post on his Instagram account Aiming to respond to Federline’s interview, Spears wrote, “During my conservatorship I was controlled and watched for almost 15 years…I needed clearance just to take Tylenol!!! I should get into WAAAY more than being topless on the beach like a baby!!!!”
