Liz Cheney state primary outcome: Wyoming Rep. Palin and Murkowski will learn their fates as Trump gloats

Unsurprisingly, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, a devotee of Trump, isn’t a fan of Rep. Liz Cheney.

This morning she tweeted: ‘Hello everyone except Liz Cheney, who is thrown in the trash can of insignificance today!’

Donald Trump has targeted dozens of enemies within the Republican Party, with particular anger at the handful of Republican lawmakers who voted to impeach him last year for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Now his most high-profile target, U.S. Representative from Wyoming Liz Cheney, looks set to lose her seat.

Ms. Cheney, who faces Trump-endorsed lawyer Harriet Hageman in the Republican primary today, voted to impeach Trump and helped lead a congressional investigation into the Capitol riot.

A poll conducted by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center at the University of Wyoming from July 25 to August 25. 6 showed Ms. Hageman with a 57% to 28% lead over Ms. Cheney.

In the race to unseat his rival, Liz Cheney, former President Donald Trump gave his enthusiastic endorsement to his opponent Harriet Hageman.

Tonight, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska face their primaries.

The political situations of the two women are surprisingly similar. Both represent largely rural Republican states and both hold seats once held by their fathers: Murkowski’s father, Frank Murkowski, chose her to replace him when he became governor, while Cheney was preceded by his father Dick, a former House Minority Whip and later Deputy Speaker, who held the seat throughout the 1980s.

Both have earned the wrath of Donald Trump with their criticisms of him, too. Cheney was one of ten House Republicans who voted to convict Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot, while Murkowski joined six other Republican senators in convicting him.

But the parallels go no further. Where Cheney will likely see her career in elected office come to an end, Murkowski is virtually guaranteed to qualify for the general election, despite having a Trump-backed primary challenger.

The Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center at the University of Wyoming conducted one of the last polls voter intentions in today’s Republican primary. Here is a summary of the survey results:

Wyoming Republican candidate Harriet Hageman leads incumbent Liz Cheney by nearly 30 points in the primary race for Wyoming’s only House seat, according to a new survey by the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center (WYSAC). representatives of the United States.

The survey was conducted from July 25 to August 6 and yielded 562 responses from Wyoming residents identified as likely voters in the August 16 Republican Party primary. The margin of error for the main survey is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Just over a quarter, 28%, of GOP primary voters support incumbent Cheney, while 57% support Hageman. Candidate Anthony Bouchard voted at 2%, while candidates Denton Knapp and Robyn Belinskey both voted below 1%. Ten percent of likely GOP voters say they are still undecided.

“The race for the Republican nomination appears to be a referendum on Cheney, as is usually the case when an incumbent seeks re-election,” says Jim King, professor of political science at UW.

Of the poll respondents who expected to vote for Cheney, 66% indicated that their vote was an expression of support for the incumbent MP. In contrast, 29% of respondents who expect to vote for another candidate said they supported that candidate, while 41% said their vote was against Cheney.

On Thursday, just days before Tuesday’s primary in Wyoming, Congresswoman Liz Cheney issued a closing plea to voters, as the anti-Trump Republican made a final plea to vote for her instead of his opponent backed by Trump and refusing the election, Harriet Hageman.

“America cannot stay free if we give up the truth. The lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen is insidious – it preys on those who love their country,” Ms Cheney said in the video “This is a door opened by Donald Trump to manipulate Americans into abandoning their principles, sacrificing their freedom, justifying violence, ignoring the rulings of our courts and the rule of law.”

“It’s Donald Trump’s legacy, but it can’t be our nation’s future.”

Voters in Alaska get their first chance to use the ranked ballot in a statewide race on Tuesday in a US House special election in which Sarah Palin is seeking to resume his elected duties.

Additionally, Republican U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski faces 18 challengers in a primary in which the top four voters will qualify for the November general election.

The special election and regular primaries for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and state legislative seats are on opposite sides of a two-sided ballot. It could take until August 31 to know the winner of the special election.
