Kevin Feige really wanted to figure out if Captain America was a virgin

Slight spoilers ahead for She-Hulk: The Lawyer Episode 1!

Whether Captain America was a virgin has been one of the biggest debates among MCU fans, and thanks in large part to Marvel chief Kevin Feige, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ultimately helped make the light on the love life of The First Avenger.

In the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters and Mark Ruffalo’s Dr. Bruce Banner are in a car and they begin to discuss the issue of Cap’s virginity. Walters argues that due to his knack for always having to save the world before and after the freeze, he never had time to lose his virginity.

After initially refusing to discuss his friend’s love life, Banner eventually reveals that “Steve Rogers isn’t a virgin. He lost his virginity to a girl in 1943 on the USO tour.”

As reported by THR, She-Hulk showrunner Jessica Gao was talking to io9 when she shared that Feige was all about exploring that question and finally putting the proverbial debate to bed.

“Kevin was really into that joke and he was actually the one who came up with the answer to that question,” Gao said. “I couldn’t believe we had to permanently fix this once and for all.”

Gao also explained how the writing team’s philosophy on She-Hulk was not only to explore the topics that MCU fans have tried to answer, but also to ask for forgiveness rather than permission and to push the boundaries when it comes to questions that can be addressed.

“Our philosophy was really to do things until they tell us we can’t because if you start asking too much, then you give people a chance to say no,” Gao said.

Although he hasn’t revealed the answer, Captain America actor Chris Evans opened up about the topic in 2014 with vanity lounge, saying, “Cap puts what he wants last. It’s his MO, and I think for so long he’s refused to bleed on people. So it’s hard to explore a guy who doesn’t want to make waves with his own personal conflict.

“It’s funny when you think about it,” Evans continued. “He’s probably a virgin. He’s probably a virgin! I don’t know when that would have happened.”

Evans concluded by saying he thought Cap was probably holding Peggy Carter, but he left a little room for a special dancer.

“He was on tour. Maybe that’s true,” Evans said. “Maybe one of these [dancing] the girls blew him away. He laughed and added, “He’s probably just a good guy. He was probably holding Peggy Carter and he’s probably a bit more old-fashioned in that sense. These are a lot of things that I consider to be giant conflicts, but they are also very personal conflicts. He’s a very human guy. That’s why I love it.

More recently, Evans tweeted a response to the conversation in She-Hulk, and he let the emojis do the talking.

Ruffalo didn’t hesitate to answer either, saying, “Sorry bro. It was under extreme duress.”
