Fortnite
The world of Fortnite collabs and leaks about those collabs never ends, and today I find two of my favorite topics that collide directly. Fortnite German Leak Mida Rado posted a tweet yesterday that asked readers to guess which of the four planned collaborations is coming to Fortnite next week.
The options were Family Guy, DOOM, Lord of the Rings, and he came back and added Destiny in a follow-up tweet, saying he forgot about it in the first list.
Naturally, as a Destiny die-hard and someone who is equally dedicated to collecting as many absurdly diverse Fortnite IP skins as possible, I’m certainly eager to see how a potential Destiny 2 X Fortnite crossover would play out.
I guess while I love Destiny, and it’s certainly a big game, we probably wouldn’t see a very large-scale crossover event. Most of the other video game collaborations we’ve seen are just a skin or two. Kratos, Master Chief, Lara Croft and some additional cosmetics. Larger collabs can get in-game bonuses like the Kamehameha or Nimbus Cloud items from Dragon Ball Z, but I guess Destiny 2 would probably end up with a few skins at most and a few cosmetics.
But what skins? Destiny 2 is full NPCs, and of course customizable Player Guardians, but here are my picks.
Destiny 2
Zavala – I don’t think there’s a more iconic Destiny character at this point than Commander Zavala, who’s been a mainstay of the series for almost eight years now thanks to the tireless performance of Lance Reddick. If there’s only one skin, it’s him. If there are two, I think it is one of the slots.
Cayde-6 – In the era of the launch of Destiny 1, Destiny 2, Cayde-6 was an important part of Destiny, but died since the September 2018 Forsaken expansion. If Bungie is doing this collaboration to promote current game developments, a character whose content has literally been deleted would be an odd choice. Although… Destiny fans would have still buy it.
Destiny 2
Ikora Rey, Eris Morn, Mara Sov – If we’re maybe doing a male skin and a female skin, as we often see in many Fortnite collabs, those are my three potential choices for the other slot. Ikora has been passed down as a name in past inquiries into Fortnite skin interests, and she’s recently had a resurgent role in the story. Just like Eris Morn, and she’s personally my choice. Mara Sov is another iconic Destiny character and (sigh) “the hot one”, so she would definitely be considered.
Destiny 2
Crow/Uldren – A Crow skin with an Uldren variant? No character was more relevant to Destiny’s story last year, and their story continues with each new season. He would be a good choice.
Shaxx – He’s not really relevant to the story these days, but he’s an iconic character and he’s been on the character interest polls as well.
Non-human characters – I think Caiatl just wouldn’t work with the hitbox, even if you blocked it in Thanos form. Mithrax as Fallen Captain might work, but I think there are too many other IPs before you start making Destiny alien species for it. Well, maybe with one exception:
Destiny 2
The witness – Now, here’s a fun idea I had. If this collaboration is next week will be Bungie’s launch of Lightfall, which introduces The Witness, an all-new villain we’ve only just glimpsed. They could debut it as a skin and the plume of smoke coming out of its head gains more faces the more kills you have in a match.
Other Cosmetics – Choose any number of jumpships you could use as a glider. The backbling could be one of Destiny’s signature guns, and it would probably depend on the character featured (someone should get Gjallarhorn though). Mining tools can be swords or glaives or, if we are crafting light weapons, the Hunter Arc Staff or Void Blades, the Titan Burning Maul and the Warlock Dawnblade sword. If this collaboration has extended to in-game elements, I mean there’s almost too a lot of potential given the sheer number of weapons and supers they could rely on.
Anyway, it would be a very good collaboration, even if it ends on a smaller scale. As soon as there’s something leaking, I post it, and we’ll see if it Is have anything to do with Lightfall’s reveal next week, or whether we’ll have to wait a bit longer.
